YellowstoneFairy Steps | | The glistening white terraces of Canary Spring looked like fairy steps. Everyone keeps thinking there is snow on the terraces, but there's not. Snow wouldn't stick in the warm water flowing over them. This spring is migrating into the boardwalk, and has only recently taken over these trees. They are dead, but they will be preserved for ages because the trees drink up the mineral-rich water when it first flows over their roots. The water kills them, but as the minerals set up in their veins, the trees are preserved. |
